A CHRISTMAS SPECIAL FROM THE HISTORIC MARBLE OLLEGIATE CHURCH IN NEW YORK CITY, TO BE BROADCAST MONDAY, DEC. 24, 11:35PM- 12:35AM, ET/PT ON THE CBS TELEVISION NETWORK
A MARBLE CHURCH CHRISTMAS, a holiday special from the historic Marble Collegiate Church in New York City, will be broadcast on Christmas Eve, Monday Dec. 24 (11:35, PM-12:35 AM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network.
The Christmas special will be hosted by the Academy Award-winning actress Marcia Gay Harden, and will feature a variety of Christmas classics such as "O Come All Ye Faithful," "The First Noel," "Go Tell It On The Mountain," "Joy To The World" and "Hark, The Herald Angels Sing." These traditional hymns will be performed by the church's exceptional choirs. The internationally acclaimed tenor Johan Botha and the renowned American soprano Camellia Johnson will join the choirs for stirring renditions of "Behold a Star" and "O Holy Night."
With the ministry of this church dating back to 1628, it is one of the oldest Protestant ministries in the United States. For many decades in the 20th century, Marble Collegiate Church has been noted for the leadership of Dr. Norman Vincent Peale, one the most influential religious figures and author of the international best seller "The Power of Positive Thinking."
Dr. Arthur Caliandro joined the church's ministry in 1967 and followed as Senior Minister upon Peale's retirement in 1984. He is known for his inspiring messages of faith, hope and love...topics he has covered in his several books. He will deliver a Christmas message of meaning to all.
Marble Collegiate Church building was designated a historic landmark and derives its name from the material used to build it. It has a dramatic exterior, with a 217-foot steeple and some of the most beautiful stained glass windows in New York, two of which are Tiffany windows. Under Caliandro's leadership, the church has developed out reach programs to help people in crisis, and is known as one of the most welcoming of churches. Protestant, Catholic, Jewish and Muslim clergy are brought together through the church program "A Partnership of Faith," and this historic, yet modern community is a wonderful setting to bring people together during a season of many holidays.
